The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, fesmedia Africa invited journalists and media practitioners to an informal breakfast gathering with Mr. Ricardo Corredor.

Riccardo is the Chairperson of the Global Forum for Media Development, as well as the Director of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez New Journalism Foundation in Columbia.

The topic of discussion Journalism and Democracy in the Era of Social Media and Post Truth Politics focused on the battle of fact versus fiction in a post truth era and on social media platforms that convey information and opinions in a bubble phenomenon, reinforcing convictions, even if based on false information, The discussion will also focus on the role of mainstream media to defend the truth, correct information and balance opinions.

Riccardo, a communications expert, with many years of experience in media and development, spoke about this phenomenon from a global perspective and share his experiences from his many years working in Latin America. Namibian journalists then had the opportunity to discuss this issue in the Namibian context, which it is envisaged will lead to a fruitful exchange of ideas on the role of journalists in defending truth in modern democracies.
